A 3-Phase Filter For Brushless Exciter/Rectifiers

A three-phase filter has been included in the rectifier circuits to reduce the dv/dt (rate of voltage change) which occurs during diode rectifier commutation in standard rectifier bridge circuits. The filter absorbs the higher frequency components of the switching events to reduce the dv/dt below levels which can trigger thyristors in the remainder of the rectifier circuit.

High dv/dt levels may also occur when some components have failed or have reduced capabilities making them susceptible to dv/dt switching.
